The course is non-residential and takes place on Saturday 1 September and Sunday 2 September.

Only 24 places are available, and applicants will be considered on a first-come first-served basis.

The fee for the weekend is £40.

Light refreshments will be provided, but parents/guardians will need to supply a packed lunch for their child.

The course runs from 9am to 5.30pm, with the final concert at 6pm on the Sunday evening.

No transport will be provided, so parents will need to make their own arrangements for drop-off and collection.

No instruments will be available for hire or loan; participants must provide their own cello and spike stop. Spike stops are essential as several rehearsal rooms and the Barber Institute have wooden floors.

Music stands and all music will be provided.

Participants will have the opportunity to rehearse and perform in three different sized groups: small ensembles of 3 or 4 players, large ensembles of 6 to 8 players and the full orchestra of all 24 players.

Final decisions about desking and concert repertoire will be made during the course.

The final concert takes place at 6pm on Sunday 2 September in the Barber Institute of Fine Art, University of Birmingham, Edgbaston, Birmingham, B15 2TS. Tickets are £5, £3 concessions.

The deadline for September 2007 applications is Friday 14 June.
