CelloMania was founded in March 2007 by Steve Collisson and Lee Armstrong with the aim of offering young cellists regular events at which to meet like-minded people and broaden their experience of cello playing. Unlike many courses, this one centres around cello ensembles. Participants will be able to rehearse, be tutored in and perform repertoire for four, six or eight cellos and in a huge cello orchestra!

All the members of staff are experienced and enthusiastic teachers, have full CRB disclosure, and are cellists with a passion for massed cellos. For more information about the members of staff click on the ‘staff’ button on the left-hand side.

A typical day might run as follows:

• Register

• Small cello ensembles (three or four cellos) for half the group

• large cello orchestra for other half

• Break

• As above, but groups swap

• Lunch

• Cello workshop

• Large cello ensembles (six or eight cellos)

• Cello orchestra for whole group

• Close

The weekend is in association with The Barber Institute of Fine Arts, University of Birmingham, Edgbaston, Birmingham and the University of Birmingham Music Department.
